IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme
IECEx is the International Electrotechnical Commission
(IEC) System
for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in
Explosive Atmospheres. The objective of the IECEx System is to
facilitate international trade in equipment and services for use in
explosive atmospheres, while maintaining the required level of
safety. It uses quality assessment specifications that are based on
International Standards prepared by the IEC. Samples of the
equipment will need to be tested by a laboratory of an IECEx
Certification Body
(ExCB) for the Ex product to be issued
with an IECEx Certificate of Conformity
(CoC).
IECEx Quality Assessment Report (QAR)
When Ex product has been issued with an IECEx CoC the manufacturing
facility will require an IECEx Quality Assessment Report
(QAR).
To obtain a QAR the Quality System will need to be compliant to
ISO/IEC 80079-34 and subject to a factory inspection audit by an
ExCB.
Revised Terminology
With the adoption of the ISO/IEC 80079-34 standard by the IECEx
System from the 01 January 2015 the terminology used should be
changed to the terminology that has been agreed by international
standardization
(e. g. “IECEx Certification Body” has been
modified to “body responsible for verification”). ISO/IEC
80079-34 Clause 3 – Terms and Definitions; documents the
standardized terms and definitions to be used.
